WhatsApp Mobile Application

Revamp of the Home Page of WhatsApp Mobile Application
Project Overview
This is a revamp project that seeks to improve the look of the WhatsApp Home Page. A feature called the Visible Online User Status was added on the home page of this remarkable social media platform to show the availability status of a user without having to open their chat history with the user.
My Contributions
Another approach to this feature already exists on WhatsApp. This feature shows the online status right beneath an online user on WhatsApp when you open the chat history of an online user. I decided to introduce this feature on the home page without one having to only see it in the chat history section.
WhatsApp stands out as one of the most used messaging applications today with 2 billion users (Mehner, 2022). It's best recognized for its wide range of features, efficiency(cost-effective), and effectiveness. Speaking of its features, one of which includes the visibility of online users to other users is evident when using WhatsApp. Currently, users can determine the availability status (online or offline) of users through the online user visibility feature by opening the chat section with a particular user. Once the chat is displayed, the online status is displayed right beneath the user's name hence depicting whether this user is online or otherwise.

This WhatsApp Home Page Revamp UI Design looks not into changing the look of the WhatsApp Page, but rather to achieve some form of simplicity in terms of the visibility of online users. Is the current way of determining the online status of users okay? What if there is a way for WhatsApp users to know if other users are online or offline without having to click on the chat history of the user? Would it be beneficial? These were the questions I ask myself hence compelling me to come up with this masterpiece.

This Revamp UI Design would give a user the ability to determine the online status of other users using a green border around users’ profile photos. Profile photos with no green border depict offline users. One benefit of this feature is that WhatsApp users can now know the availability status of a user without having to open their chat history with the user.

Application Revamp Project
Green was used to depict an online user because the color itself depicts activeness in the tech space. When someone gives you a call, green is used to initiate a communication hence meaning you are active and online. Therefore, green would achieve the cognitive principle of perception and recognition to assist users to instinctively know they depict an available online user.
Choice of Green Color
Upon rolling out this UI Design with some WhatsApp users, the following are the responses given:

User1
Name: Anonymous
Remarks: Yeah this looks good. I like the online users' section

User2
Name: Anonymous
Remarks: Nice work. It just looks a little busy though.

User3
Name: Anonymous
Remarks: The whole idea makes sense. The application looks cool.
